Hello internet friends,
I have a story, "Tender Till The Day I Die", which begins it's week-long, serialized run on a fantastic site called FiveChapters.com.
Usually they post stories by REAL writers. This week, it's little old me.
The story is one I wrote for an MTV Books compilation of stories inspired by songs. My story was inspired by the Pernice Brothers' song "Weakest Shade Of Blue" - the lead off track on their album Yours, Mine And Ours.
MTV Books realized what an oxymoron "MTV Books" is and scratched the compilation, leaving my story homeless. Thank goodness for FiveChapters.com.
I hope you like it.

Hello cyberspace cadets,
Rhett here. I am happy to check in with y'all on my NEW AWESOME WEBSITE!!! Thank goodness. I felt like my internet self was shriveling up. But I'm back, baby.
I really love the site's design (kudos to the crack team of designers), and I look forward to adding content. I am hoping to keep abreast of all the news and whatnot that appears and even to compile some archives - old press, photos, set-lists, videos, late-night appearances, unreleased recordings, and whatever else I can think of.
I want this to be an active space. To that end, please send in any stuff you find, new or old. I need all the content I can get. This internet thing is hungry for content.
I am also looking forward to hosting some sort of forum on this site where you guys can talk to each other and post questions and requests for me. I would love the chance to interact more with the folks who give my work meaning - the listeners, you.
To catch you up to speed on what I have been doing:
I have been in the studio with the 97's for the last three months and we are a couple of weeks away from finishing what promises to be our best album in ten years, if not ever. We are working in Dallas' Pleasantry Lane Studios with Salim Nourallah producing. Sonically, the album is dense and rich. It rocks as much as anything we have ever done.
I will understand if you are skeptical about the truth of the preceding claims. You have heard a lot of musicians go on about how each album is their best yet (if not THE best yet), but when you finally hear our new record you will remember these words and realize that I was not merely trafficking in hyperbole for the sake of hype. This record has me jazzed.
In January and February of 2008, I am going to play as many acoustic solo gigs as I can line up. This will keep my wits sharp and my callouses thick. I will probably come somewhere near you. If I don't make it to your neck of the woods, let me hear about it. I can take the heat.
I am piling up the songs for another solo album and getting excited about that.
After the 97's record comes out in April, the band will hit the road hard for the better part of the year. I am already hearing whispers of tour dates. Before I know it, I will be packed into a sardine can full of dudes flying around the map.
I will talk to you all again soon. Until then, keep on rocking!
